Leather chairs
Leather needs extra care. Follow these cleaning steps to keep your leather office chair in good condition.
Step 1
Vacuum or dust the chair to get rid of loose debris like crumbs and dust.
Step 2
Wipe down the leather with leather cleaning wipes or a slightly damp cloth. Avoid cleaning detergents, even mild ones.
Step 3
Once the chair is clean and dry, use a leather protector or conditioner to safeguard it from future stains.
Plastic chairs
Plastic chairs are the easiest to clean but take care not to cause scratches and stains.
Follow these steps to clean a plastic office chair.
Step 1
Dust off the plastic to remove any dust or loose dirt.
Step 2
Using a soft cloth, clean the chair with soapy water and rinse with fresh water. Use cotton buds to get dirt out of hard-to-reach areas.
Don’t use an abrasive sponge or harsh chemicals that could discolour the plastic.
Step 3
If the chair has fabric or foam parts, clean those areas separately and don’t let them get wet.
Step 4
Let the chair air-dry before taking it back into the office.
Mesh chairs
Both chair seats and backs can be made from a tight mesh that’s designed to be hardwearing and dirt resistant. To clean mesh chairs, follow these steps.
Step 1
Vacuum the chair to get rid of loose dirt and fibres.
Step 2
Wipe down the seat and backrest with a damp cloth and a small amount of dishwashing soap. Don’t saturate the chair or the foam will get wet.
Step 3
Rinse the cloth and wipe down again to remove any soap residue.
Armrests, bases and wheels
Most chairs have metal or plastic bases, armrests and wheels or casters.
Clean these with a damp cloth and a mild detergent. Avoid abrasive sponges that can scratch or harsh cleaning chemicals that can cause stains or discolouration.
