Arne Jacobsen Oxford Classic – from US$5,000
Source: Fritz Hansen
Arne Jacobsen first designed the Oxford Classic in 1965 for the professors at Oxford. At the time, the chair’s extra tall back was a symbol of prestige.
Today, it’s still considered Jacobsen’s most outstanding work. There are two designs available, the Classic and Premium.
Vitra Grand Executive Highback Chair – from US$5,100
The Vitra Grand Executive Highback armchair by Antonio Citterio combines the elegance of his Grand Repos lounge chair with the functionality of an office chair. Its softly padded upholstery offers supreme comfort.
The FlowMotion mechanism can be adapted to the individual user to ensure synchronised comfort in every sitting position. The luxurious leather finish is available in a range of colours.
Herman Miller Embody – US$1,595
Source: Herman Miller
It’s the most affordable office chair on our list, but the Herman Miller Embody is still an investment. Fortunately, Herman Miller has an excellent reputation for making highly desirable, ergonomic chairs.
The Embody has been designed to put the health of your body first. Every aspect of the chair has been designed for a health-positive purpose and supreme comfort.
Pininfarina’s Xten – US$1.5 million
The Aresline Xten is the world’s most expensive office chair. It’s produced by Italian car design firm Pininfarina, which is better known for designing Ferraris and Cadillacs, for the luxury market in the Middle East.
The exorbitant price is partly due to its high-tech materials. It’s upholstered in Dynatec, a fabric used by Olympic athletes that makes you sweat free. And it features a material used for cushioning called Technogel, which conforms to the body’s contours to reduce seating pressure and fatigue.
Wegner Swivel Chair – US$13,200
The Wegner Swivel Chair, designed by Danish master of design Hans Wegner, features a stainless-steel frame and a wooden top rail.
It may not look comfortable, but the chair was created, with the assistance of Professor Egill Snorrason, to be one of the most ergonomic office chairs around.
Vitra Grand Executive Lowback Chair – US$3,730
Like its Highback brother, this Vitra chair combines the elegance of a lounge chair with the functionality of a modern office chair.
Key features include high-quality leather upholstery with decorative seams and Vitra’s FlowMotion mechanism, which facilitates a dynamic range of movement by the user.
Arper Aston Executive Chair – US$3,695
The Aston Executive Chair features a modern, compact design with a durable steel frame, injection-moulded foam cushions and fabric or leather upholstery.
The chair is available in three heights – low-back, medium-back and high-back – and is fitted with a gas-operated height-adjustment mechanism and a spring mechanism that provides tilt.
